HK-Schools Focus Series: Po Leung Kok Ngan Po Ling College

Updated: Dec 23, 2021

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at 18-year-old Po Leung Kuk Ngan Po Ling College was embraced as an alternative curriculum to local Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) for Ngan Po Ling students in 2014. Interest in this young but growing program has jumped dramatically since its introduction to the School.

The program the School offers here is compassionate and patient in its development of students. Understanding that students may need time to adapt to differences in learning, teaching and assessment, the School helps students with the Bridging Year Programme; this bespoke, one-year curriculum aims to develop the potential IBDP learners by providing them with scaffolded learning experiences, so that learners will emerge confident, communicative, and ready for their commitment to the IBDP.

The 2020 and 2021 graduates of the IBDP have scored an average of 37.8 and 38.6 respectively, with 37% and 50% attaining 40 or above and over 95% of students were able to secure degree offers from universities worldwide. Part of this has to do with the commitment to small class teaching and the creation of learning environments where teachers can focus on and differentiate for students according to their individual needs.

While the program is budding, both students and teachers are passionate supporters of the IBDP and its philosophy of nurturing well-rounded and internationally-minded leaders of the future.
