IB World Schools Yearbook 2021 revealed that IB currently engages with over 5,300 schools worldwide across 158 countries and regions. There were 165,857 candidates in 2021 and the United States was ranked the first on the number of candidates with 83,374 candidates. The world average score increased from 31.33 points in 2020 to 33 points, with a record number of 1,187 candidates achieving the perfect score of 45 points.
IB has gained popularity in Hong Kong that more local international schools, private schools and direct subsidy schools have been authorised to offer IB programmes in recent years. There are currently 67 IB schools in Hong Kong, of which 34 schools are offering IB Diploma Programme (IBDP). In 2021, Hong Kong was ranked 11th globally on the number of candidates with 2,143 candidates. And the average score of Hong Kong candidates was 38.9 points, 7.1% higher than 36.3 points in 2020. 130 candidates also achieved the perfect score.
